You give people exactly the conditions they needed, usually before they asked. Your contribution is visible in what grew rather than in anything with your name on it. You are almost always more central to a situation than anyone — including you — gives you credit for.
How you land. People find you easy to talk to and easy to overlook in the same breath. You make yourself useful before anyone asks, so your presence is felt as an absence of friction rather than as a contribution. The misreading is that you do not mind. You do — you have just decided that asking for credit would spoil the thing you were doing.
When it gets hard. Under pressure you take on more. Your reflex is to smooth, absorb, and keep things going for everyone else, and you will run yourself down doing it long past the point anyone intended. You rarely resent it in the moment and sometimes resent it all at once, much later, in a way that surprises people who thought you were fine with the arrangement.
You do your best work when your contribution is acknowledged and there is a limit on what is asked.
